monuments

about

"monuments" was written circa 2005. It came during the initial “bobby revelation”. It touches on a lot things namely the dissolution (or perhaps diminishing) of ego in the service of unity or union. The opening statement is that we’re here to bear witness, then immediately acknowledges how sometimes that doesn’t feel like quite enough. Verse 1 touches on something akin to original sin and suggests the ‘problems’ of humanity and consciousness are baked into the cake. Verse 2 continues with this struggle for reckoning and ends lamenting the time lost in unnecessary struggle, and more personally, time lost to fatalism, cynicism, nihilism. This could be seen as a companion piece to 1000 ways. The final verse is supposed to serve as incantation and indoctrination for the subject who needs essential experience and is an attempt to either make or manifest that experience.

lyrics

We're all here to build monuments to existence
But it makes us feel so small and insignificant

I awoke turning pages
There was blood on the pages
And I don't know from where it came
Coming to terms was an everyday thing

What will we leave
what will be left of us
I found myself
Found myself mired in endless negotiations
That wear on me despite the nature of my engagement
Spent far too much time proponent of a dead paradigm
Dying

Being
Being before
Being before order
Got to place being before order
Everywhere: being before order
