every scheme i know

about

"every scheme I know" is likely the moodiest as well as one of the longer tracks on our forthcoming "character/witness" album. It see-saws between a major and minor feel which makes the mood of the song somewhat unstable. There are expressions of hopeful astonishment and disappointing setbacks, both things that are likely to be encountered in a year (particular toward the turn of the year where reflection is inevitable even for a nostalgia suspicious, unsentimental individual like myself).

The song primarily deals with honest feelings of failure and loss, though in the service of finding firmer and higher ground. The swinging groove aims to be the wind at your back in this sometimes Sisyphean fete.

lyrics

seems I’ve tried
every scheme I know
still ive got nothing to show

broken and i'm tired
im stretched way too thin
go ahead and puncture me
let your brilliance come in

too many mornings
like too early new years day
this new beginning’s determined to dredge up the past

when I cried out it was more than just a show
tied to this path
I wouldn’t know where else to go

seems I’ve tried
every scheme I know
still ive got nothing to show

broken, tired
im stretched way too thin
I wish you would puncture me
let your brilliance come in

too many mornings
like too early new years day
this new beginning
can’t seem to put the past away
